These beauties graces our back pasture last night.
What you don't see pictures of would be my crazy husband and me taking the pictures. The turkeys were pretty far out when we first started taking pictures, so Ken decided that we would "call" them closer. We both moved from our back door to the garage where I could take pictures from a window. Ken could also stand right outside the garage and "call" them.
I was informed that turkeys have amazing eye-sight and I was not allowed to move. As he started the "caller", they started running toward the house!!! There were four hens and three toms. The hens were the ones running toward the house thinking there was another tom there. The three toms just followed wherever they went. They came up to our back fence, so I moved from the window to laying on my belly (still in my work clothes on the garage floor) and sticking my camera lens out the cat door, so I could get a better shot! I'm sure we looked ridiculous!
They are just so beautiful!!!! I'm so thankful we were able to get them so close to the house and just be in awe of God's magnificent creation!
I love that they spread their big feathers trying to get the "ladies" attention! :)
This is what a male turkey (Tom) looks like when he doesn't have his feathers all spread out. They spread their feathers during mating season to be "more attractive" the hens.
We found out that hunting season for turkeys doesn't start until next month...so these pretties were safe from landing on our Thanksgiving table. I'm not so sure I would want Ken to hunt them anyway just b/c they are so beautiful. I don't want to scare them off...I'd love to see them every year!

The Happenings of November 2009
November marks my most favoritest time of year!!! I love the fall and the decorations and the food...and it brings Thanksgiving and family get togethers....and then shopping and decorating for Christmas and Christmas music...and then I just get all excited!!!!! YAY!!! So anyway---The month started with Ken and I celebrating our 1 month anniversary. :) We decided to celebrate by eating our top layer of the wedding cake now, instead of waiting until our 1 year anniversary. It was YUMMY! :) We didn't get very much cake at the wedding so it was nice to enjoy it. We'll have our baker (Ms. Laura's Cakes) make us another one for our one year anniversary!

Also, a few pictures that I love are of our deck and the sunset! Then Ken took some of the house from the pasture too.

And some that are funny!!! This is Ken vaccuming the house...so he has some ear protection!!!! :) You can also see Ruger hiding from the vaccuum in the hallway....and then in the bedroom too!

My nephew, Spencer, has really taken an interest to hunting. He had never gone hunting before and he has been BEGGING to go. Between schedules and the actual hunting season dates, it took us awhile to get him here but we finally did. Mark and Spence came in on a Monday evening for Spence to spend the night and go hunting with Ken the next morning. I was baking a cheesecake for our Thanksgiving when they got there. Spence was so cute!!! Mark had gotten him new boots and a coat and gloves for the cold weather!!! We did have to make a walmart run for long underwear and some tylenol, but we had a great evening of just relaxing and visiting. The next morning, we all got up for the big hunt! Ken and I were just HOPING they would see something....anything....for Spencer's first time out. We didn't want him to get bored and it be a slow-moving day. I made them breakfast and they were out the door. No more than 10 minutes after they walked out the door, I heard gun shots!!! I couldn't believe it!!! I went to the window and sure enough Ken turned to the window and made his sign that he got something. Spence and Ken went out in the field to track the buck. Sure enough, there was an 11-point buck!!!! YAY!!!! They had such a great rest of the day, cleaning and checking it and taking it to the processor! Spence got to experience the ENTIRE hunting experience. I did make sure he knew that this is NOT the way hunting always goes!!!!! Its never just a 10 minute hunt!!! :)

That evening, we loaded Spencer, us and the two dogs and headed to Tulsa. We were celebrating Thanksgiving a day early since Ken had to work on Thanksgiving day. When we got to Tulsa, my parents and Ken and I went to dinner at The Cheesecake Factory to celebrate my dad's birthday. Then we went to see "The Blindside"!!! The most amazing movie!!!! We all loved it! Its definitely a MUST SEE!!!! Check out the link to watch the preview! It was a really fun way to start our Thanksgiving holiday!

Thanksgiving day...our first Thanksgiving together was spent together....even though Ken had to work, I was able to go with him. We had a traditional lunch together with some of his co-workers. Their boss's wife had brought in food for everyone. That evening we had leftovers and just hung out at home.
Friday I woke up at the same time Ken did (6:30am) and drove to Michelle's house. We were going shopping. Funny thing is, even though it was Black Friday, we were going shopping for fun and just to be together. We had breakfast at IHOP, had makeovers that the MAC counter, a little shopping, lunch at The Olive Garden, played with Finley, ordered Ken's Christmas online so it could be shipped to her house, and then visited with Devin too. The only pictures I got that day were a few with Finley (of course)....yet again, Michelle and I forget to get a picture together!!! Ridiculous!!!! :)
Other little happenings of the month were finishing up football season, celebrating my dad's birthday at Thanksgiving, celebrating our friend, Bobby's, birthday, a garage sale, mom and dad spent BEDLAM here with Ken and I, and basketball games with Ken. It was a great month! :) I will just share my favorite picture of Ruger from the month! He was slightly cold!!!!
Oh, and I can't forget to post pictures of my house decorations! I just love Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations!!!! :)

You can see, in the above picture, the white pumpkin and blue cards. This was our new tradition. Everyday in November, I had two cards sitting on the cabinet. We each had a card that we filled out what we were thankful for each day. I might change it up next year...we both got a little lazy with it the closer Thanksgiving got. Here are some of the things we said:
Wednesday morning, I made breakfast for my parents and Ken and I! I used my Ebelskiver and made pancakes filled with apples and had caramel syrup for the top! They were GREAT!!! The rest of the morning, mom and I cooked and listened to Christmas music. Everyone started showing up at 1pm. We had a great time with everyone!!! We had lunch about 1:30pm and then we just visited and enjoyed each other's company. We ended the evening by watching "Man vs Food" while Ken napped! ;) Ken and I left later that evening so we could get back for him to get ready for work the next day.
This was the YUMMY homemade cheesecake I made!!!! And everyone loved it!!!! :)
"Today is our 1 month anniversary and I'm thankful for my HUSBAND!!!! He's completely AMAZING!!! Its been the BEST month!!!" (Beth)
"I am thankful the Lord gives me the things I need and a little extra for the things I want" (Ken)
"Dinner with our pastor and his wife and PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE!!!" (Beth)
"I am thankful for the wife I always dreamed of having and never thought I would." (Ken)
"Just having the day off with Ken" (Beth)
"Thankful for such a beautiful place to hunt right out our back door" (Ken)
"I am thankful that I have my best friend (its YOU silly not Michelle) to physically go through life with. To experience the good and bad...fun and not so fun times....to travel with and just to come home to. I'm thankful God gave me Ken." (Beth)
"Days off with my lovely wife" (Ken)
"My Husband!!! I love being able to spend our 1st Thanksgiving together!!! Love you!" (Beth)
"Spending Thanksgiving with my wife" (Ken)
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!!!

Kenny's First Deer of the Season!
Yesterday Kenny got his first doe of the season!!! He went out on opening day (Saturday was opening day for rifle season), but didn't see anything....but yesterday, HE DID!!!!

This will show you how little I know about hunting. I go out to his house and before I get out of the car, I hear a gun shot east of his house...so I just figured he was way out hunting. So, I get out of the truck and I'm talking on the phone to Michelle and just walking around outside. I get to the south end of his driveway, that looks into the field behind his house....and I hear him yell, "STOP!!! Get in the house!!!" I didn't see him at all until he started talking to me, but he was at the tree line behind the house....I found out later that three doe were standing in the field and when I pulled up, they froze. Oopps! I went inside and just prayed that I didn't mess the whole thing up....THANKFULLY I heard a gunshot from Ken and he got a doe!!!
Today he is hunting a buck that he has seen three times in the last month. Hopefully, I will be able to post pictures of that too.....and I am learning a lot about this hunting stuff! :)
