The Quiet

Have you ever lost someone you loved? Do you remember how it felt? The few times I can think of take me back to a place of entrapment. You can't make the pain go away. Its all-consuming. It can take your breath away.

I can't help but wonder what Mary, Jesus' mother, and all the disciples were going through the day after Jesus' crucifixion. It was the Sabbath and they weren't allowed to do any work. So the women couldn't busy themselves in the kitchen and the men couldn't work around their homes. They would keep the Sabbath holy. Attend "church". Be at home with their family.

My first thought was "did they sleep all day?" That's what I do. When I am so upset by something, I sleep. I sleep b/c it takes the pain away. Unfortunately, when I wake up, it always feels like I had been punched in the stomach...so I would try to fall back asleep.

Some of you might do the opposite. Sometimes when things consume our life, our minds won't shut off so sleep becomes something you long for, but just doesn't come.

Some of us, spend time in prayer. On our knees desperate for God to answer us quickly. Wanting so badly for Him to stop the pain and make it go away.

I can only imagine that each of the disciples, Mary, and whoever else was close to Christ handled the loss in their own way. However, I have to also imagine that they sat at home counting the minutes for that 3rd day to arrive. I can imagine that the homes were filled with silence. With anticipation. With hope. And, maybe a little fear. After all, they were human...and who among us doesn't doubt God just a little every once in a while?

I can imagine that it was the longest day of their life!

Sitting on this side...we know what tomorrow brings!

LOVE this perspective! Have you listened to Alive by Natalie Grant? It is written as Mary Magdalene and I just love looking at all of this in a new way! Thanks for enlightening me! =)
