Texas Vacation: Day Three

HILL COUNTRY!!!!!! Kenny and I decided to take a road trip within a road trip! About two days before we left, I found something very fun and special that I knew Ken would love! We wanted to go to Hill Country anyway, so I told Ken that we would drive to Fredericksburg....and that I had a surprise for him. As we were travelling, we went through Johnson City which has LBJ's Ranch and park. I wish we were able to stop, but just didn't have enough time. We kept on driving and finally came to Fredericksburg. Our first stop??? COFFEE!!!! :) From there, I think Ken was ready to see what the surprise was.....the more I talked to him, I laughed and told him that I didn't know why I was keeping this a secret b/c it wasn't a BIG deal, but I just knew he would like it! We grabbed some coffee...and headed a little bit out of town......the surprise???? Fredericksburg Airport!!!!! Now, its not just any small town airport...it has a hotel and a diner! The Airport Diner was SO CUTE!!!! The diner was very cute and the food was AMAZING!!!!! Really!!! We weren't expecting it to be as good as it was! Not only was the food good, but Ken said that his REAL Cherry Coke was the best he's ever had! And the Hangar Hotel??? FABULOUS!!!! We can't wait to go back so we can stay there. It was perfectly decorated with a 20's motif! LOVED IT! They were even nice enough to let us see a room. Just love love love it!From there, we headed back to downtown Frederickburg to do a little sight-seeing and shopping. Its a cute little town and we had a really good time there....and bought a few little house items too! Of course, there were things we didn't get to do here either....like the National Museum of the Pacific War. The BEST thing about Frederickburg was running into some of Ken's friends he met when he was in the Navy! He hasn't seen them in YEARS....and we really just happened to be in there at the same time! It was crazy and wonderful and such a God-thing! It was my first time to meet Nick and Angela....and Ken was just beyond excited to see them!!!!When we left Frederickburg, we weren't quite ready to head back to Austin, so we kept driving. Of course, we had to go to Luckenbach, TX b/c its just famous....I mean, George Straight sings about it and has performed there. Um....I'm glad someone in Frederickburg gave us a heads up b/c we might have missed the town all together! Its a street....NO KIDDING! A STREET!!!!! We pulled onto "Luckenbach Town Loop"........and there was a barn, we think with food and a bar.... ....and then another barn with a dance floor and stage.......then you round the loop and there is a HUGE dirt parking lot and then back to the highway! Really!!! I'm not kidding...that's it!!!! Was this a joke??? Did George Straight go there on purose??? It was crazy to us!

From there, we headed to Boerne. The drive was SO pretty! We loved looking at all the ranches that makes up Hill Country. My parents lived in Boerne when my mom was pregnant with their 2nd child. My dad was a high school football and baseball coach. I'd never been there (or at least I don't remember being there), so it was fun to drive through. Ken and I loved it so much that we would LOVE to live there!!!! :) We love that its a small town with lots of country and ranches...but its SO close to San Antonio and not a bad drive from Austin either. From Boerne, we headed back to Austin. If we had known how close it was to San Antonio, we would have just gone on there. Next time we know. In fact, we LOVE San Antonio SOOO much that we think we'd just stay there and drive into Austin for a day.

Okay...anyway....on the drive back we stopped for coffee (of course) and just saw some amazing land, house, and ranches! BEAUTIFUL!!!! We took the scenic route through New Braunfels and then back to the outlet shops in San Marcos....Ken had a few more Banana Republic items to buy. :)

Then, we took the advice of my fellow Texas, Tia, to eat a Chuy's! Oh my gosh!!!! LOVED IT!!!!! The margaritas! The food!! AMAZING! Our only one thing we didn't care for was how loud it was. I think it was the area we sat in though...it was pretty compact. The bigger areas seemed to be less loud. Where we sat was so loud that it was VERY hard to just hear each other. However, it was SOOOOO good, that we will definitely go back! Everyone should try it!!!!! YUM! :)

Day Four???? SAN ANTONIO!!!!!!!

Just the mention of Chuy's is making me hungry. Henry has a cute Chuy's t-shirt that says "Keep Austin Weird" on the back. And hello, cute! I want to go to that diner and airport hotel now! I've been to Fredericksburg once, but had no idea that we should've stopped by the airport. Guess that's a good reason to go back, huh?

It sounds like you all had a blast in Fredericksburg, that is where I live! The airport is one of my favorite things and I love the diner there. That is such a neat hotel to stay at too if you are ever here overnight. Hope you found some good things on Main!
