Sunday morning, we were up really early! There was a cute little place we were wanting to have breakfast before we left Frisco:
5th Street Patio Cafe.

We had tried it on Saturday morning, but got there about 2 hours after it had opened thinking it would be okay. Wrong! It was packed!!! So we decided to get up and get there by 8 a.m. when it opened. Perfect!!! We were the first one's there. However, within no time, the inside was almost full and people were starting to sit on the patio. The crowd let us know the food had to be good! If it wouldn't have embarassed my hubs, I would have taken a picture of the FABULOUS Bananas Foster French Toast! YUM!!!!

Once we had full bellies, we hit the road and headed south. Our next stop was San Antonio!!!! On the drive through Dallas, we got to see the new
Cowboy Stadium from the highway. Its pretty awesome!!!! We kinda wished we had booked our hotel at the Omni in downtown Ft. Worth and gone to the football game. There was also a Stars hockey game that weekend that we could have planned to go to, but next time. :)
Our trip was pretty flawless...minus the hideous traffic we encountered Austin. Ugh! Every single time...Austin is ridiculous!!! As soon as we pass downtown, the traffic magically disappears.
We arrived in San Antonio around 3pm and checked into our hotel,
Omni La Mansion del Rio. We were starving and SO ready to have some great food! After trying to find a place our bell hop suggested, we gave up! We ended up at our favorite spot,
Casa Rio! Lunch was amazing!!! Of course.

The one new thing that we noticed immediately was that there were a lot more homeless people hanging around the Riverwalk and asking for money from most people. It was really frustrating. We did find out later that everyone is having a problem with this. So much so, it was the front page story on San Antonio's newspaper that past Saturday. I guess the residents of San Antonio had complained to the City that there were too many hanging around Travis Park, so the the City built a new homeless shelter downtown. Ever since it opened, the Riverwalk has had problems. Riverwalk employees are having to tell the tourists to not give any money to these people...and they're having to ask the homeless to leave people alone. What I love about Texas is that they will take care of the problem. They provide shelter for the homeless and they will also work with the Riverwalk to make it safe and a place tourists still feel comfortable.
Anyway---after lunch, we walked the
Riverwalk and then headed back to our hotel. We sat in
the bar and watched some football and I had the BEST margarita I've EVER had!!!

Then, we decided to take a nap after the early morning and tiring drive. We watched a little TV and then were ready for some dinner. Unfortunately, most places close on the river at 10pm. We started walking around and decided just to go back to the
hotel bar. They had a late night menu, which ended up being perfect and the food was really good! We closed it down (midnight) and called it a night!

Casa Rio is my family's favorite SA place to eat, my parents ate there on their honeymoon!
Next time you drive through Austin take the new tollway loop! You can pick it up in Georgetown or Round Rock and it ends in Buda. You bi-pass all of Austin and traffic!!! It is worth every penny! And cuts your travel time through Austin in half!!
