Let's Talk Wedding: The Cake

The cake, the cake, the cake! OH THE CAKE! Did you know that this is my favorite part of any wedding??? I love love love cake! :) This was my favorite part of the planning too!!!! I actually had a few appointments set to taste cake, but after meeting Ms. Laura, I was SOLD! I love her! My mom, her best friend (Millie), my best friend (Michelle), and I met at Ms. Laura's Cakes. Her bakery is at her house. Its so cute!!!!! I truly believe that God led her to me. I don't remember what led me to her, but she was my first appointment. What I love about her? She's a believer! What better connection to have with someone than to love the Lord! To be sisters-in-Christ! Second, her husband serves in the U.S. Military and fights for my freedom. That is so impressive to me and just shows absolulte servanthood. It touched my heart! Third, her cake is AWESOME!!!!! I mean, AWESOME! God has given her an amazing talent and she touched my heart! She truly has the best cake I've ever tasted! She is an OU fan, but I can forgive her for that. ;) Just kidding!!!!! Just a little rivalry humor. Anyway---I remember whispering to my mom if we could just hire her. I didn't need to think about it or discuss it, I knew she is who I wanted to work with. We made a deposit and the rest is history.

Let me just show you the two pictures I took to Ms. Laura. This is the only way I've wanted my cake to look. There were SO many beautiful cakes that I looked at, but I always came back to this one. I just loved it! When she saw the picture, she said that she could get some really wide cut coconut...and the best part was that it was almost tasteless. I liked that b/c not everyone likes coconut. And, if people didn't like it, it was big enough peices that they could just pick it off. Ms. Laura did an AMAZING job! It looked EXACTLY like what I wanted! It was beautiful! I also wanted each layer to be a different flavor. Its the "trendy" thing to do....but I learned that some bakers don't do it. Weird...but anyway---The cake had butter cream icing....

My flavors were (from top to bottom):
Italian Cream with cream cheese filling

Pumpkin cake with caramel filling
Red velvet cake with cream cheese filling
Italian Cream with cream cheese filling Look at that coconut!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!
We also had an extra sheet cake that was white chocolate cake with REAL strawberries in the filling!!!! FABULOUS! I actually had white chocolate cake with fudge filling b/c we thought the kids wouldn't like my flavors. I changed the fudge filling to the strawberry after we had her cake with strawberry at Savastano's (a pizza place in Tulsa that she makes cake for). It was so good that I called her the next day and changed it.
The Italian Cream (below) is what the biggest layer and top later (for us later) were. Its also what we got a year later. I was so very happy with the way the cake turned out. Thanks, Ms. Laura!!!!!!!

What flavor did you get for your 1 year anniversary cake? I just love that idea! So much better than trying to keep the top layer frozen for a year.
