Lets Talk Wedding: Colors

This post will probably be very boring b/c I chose my colors based off pictures that I want to post later. Here's my story:

When I was growing up, I wanted my entire wedding to be black and white. I even wanted my bridesmades to be in white. I thought it would be pretty and elegant. Ironically, the thought of having anything, but my dress, in white during October drove me crazy!!! Just ask my mom!!! She convinced me that having white flowers on stage to match my bouquet would be really pretty...and she was absolutely right!!! But, it still took some convincing!

Then in college, all of that changed because I began to bleed orange! My alma matter is orange and black and that is exactly what kind of wedding I wanted! Now most people probably think of halloween when they think of those colors together, but I had a plan and a vision in my mind...and I promise, no one would have walked away thinking about halloween at all!!!!

My husband did not graduate from the same University as I did....however, he still loves it like I do. He has taken classes there and actually worked there. I know I could have sold him on the idea (he actually didn't care at all what colors our wedding was decorated with...he just wanted to get married), but I started to stray from this idea when I saw pictures of bridesmaid dresses I wanted to use. The first one I fell in love with was burgundy. However, I knew I couldn't have a burgundy (otherwise known as "crimson") wedding b/c I would NEVER do that....that might just have something to do with a rival University south of my alma matter. :)

And, then I fell for purple!!!! And it still makes me smile at just how much I fell in love with purple!!! I never thought that I would pick such a "girly" color, but I did!!! And I had fun with it!!!

I was conflicted. Growing up, brides usually picked two colors. And usually it was a certain color and black. After sitting through many episodes of "What Not To Wear", I've learned that black is a neutral color. Since its neutral and EVERYTHING goes with it, I decided not to make it an official color....but it would still be very much a part of the wedding. I really wanted to use purple and really wanted to use burgundy. I went to my mom (the decorating guru) to find out if those colors would go well together....and she said YES! But what about ORANGE??? I wanted to use it too!!! Mom told me that adding it would work too!

THREE COLORS???? REALLY???? So, I made my first (of many) non-traditional decisions. I had three colors for my wedding!

Purple.
Burgundy.
Orange. Yes, OSU orange!
