What If You're Single?

I was single for a long time. At least to me, it was a long time. There were so many things that I learned during this time of my life, but what I tried to always do was take the advice of my married friends about certain things. Even married, I still do this a lot with thoughts about having kids. Every single parent tells me that its the most incredible thing to hold your baby for the first time. From my perspective, having kids scares me to death b/c I think of all the things that I will have to give up. Then, I remind myself that EVERY. SINGLE. PARENT. tells me that having kids is so amazing. So, I just choose to believe them. I know that if God blesses us with kids one day, then it will be the most incredible experience...difficult in many ways, but incredible.

I say all of this because when you're single, you have the privelege to have relationships with married couples and families. You get to observe, ask questions, and see what that life might be like for you. What is so great about this is that you can see things you want to do and NOT do when you are married. This isn't a time to judge others, please don't think I'm saying that. Every marriage is different and each couple functions differently. What I'm saying is that you will find there are things that you will want to incorporate into your marriage and other things that just won't be a big deal to you. You will learn a lot about yourself and realize more things you want in a spouse.

This goes for parenting as well. Take this time to watch how people parent. Just like I said before, you will find things that you want to do as a parent...and you will also find things that you don't want to do. Again, not a time to judge others. Its their family and its what works for them. But, remember, you don't have to be like everyone else.

I know that being single can be hard and frustrating. However, use the time God gives you to learn about yourself. Utilize the relationships around you. Don't worry about being a 3rd-wheel. Jump in! Have a good time!!! This season in life is only here for a short time! :)
